Health Care Assistant training

Health Care Assistants (HCAs) carry out many roles in primary care most of them face to face with patients. In Tameside and Glossop we believe HCAs require high quality training, in practical skills, communication and patient management.

We encourage anyone interested in becoming a HCA to enrole in the Greater Manchester, HCA-Foundation course. Here you will learn:

  • Core clinical skills
  • Health screening awareness
  • The management of Hypertension and Cardiovascular risk
  • ECG skills
  • Blood pressure
  • Urine dipstick
  • Phlebotomy
  • and be supported to complete the Care Certificate

We are aware that many reception/admin staff also take on HCA roles, which makes their jobs varied and interesting. We support this and encourage established HCAs to consider careers in nursing.

We hold regular HCA support groups. Contact us for more details.

We are inviting local HCAs to look at developing skills through the Advanced Apprenticeship Programme run by the Greater Manchester Training Hub. Please take a look, this is an ideal way to further your career.
