We have a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team at the Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre in a fellowship post.
This role offers the chance to deliver truly holistic care to people with cystic fibrosis, whilst also being able to undertake a range of development opportunities to enhance future career progression.
There will be support to develop leadership skills and carry out service development and quality improvement projects as part of establishing the role of an occupational therapist in cystic fibrosis. Additionally, there will be support to develop knowledge and skills specific to cystic fibrosis through a range of CPD opportunities including MDT education sessions, shadowing specialists and external training including international conferences.
The Manchester Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre is recognised nationally and internationally as a centre of clinical excellence. The centre benefits from a dedicated Cystic Fibrosis outpatient department as well as a ward with an attached gym and exercise testing facility and a homecare team supporting patients across the region. The centre currently cares for 450 adults in the North West and is the largest adult centre in the UK outside of London. It has a national and international reputation for its clinical research.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage a varied caseload which will be determined by the post holder in collaboration with the MDT. Care might be delivered across a range of different settings such as in the outpatient clinic, virtually, in the patients home or on the ward. As such applications are welcome from occupational therapists with a broad range of experience, whether that is predominately in physical or mental health.
As the first occupational therapist to work in the Manchester Adults Cystic Fibrosis Centre this is a fantastic opportunity to integrate into a well established MDT, working alongside physiotherapists, social workers, psychologists, dietitians, specialist nurses, the ward team and the medical team. The role will suit somebody who is passionate about occupational therapy with excellent communication skills and an innovative approach to problem solving. Supervision will be provided collaboratively between the lead physiotherapist in cystic fibrosis and the lead occupational therapist at Wythenshawe hospital. The post holder will be required to support more junior staff or students as well as provide education to the MDT and to the wider cystic fibrosis community on the role of occupational therapy in this setting.
Applications for part time working patterns that allow the post holder to meet the demands of the role are welcome. Candidates applying for a secondment should have support from their line manager before submitting their application. The Trust operates a flexible working policy.
