The GP Phoenix programme aims to engage, inspire and develop mid-career GPs in a way that generates positivity about general practice, re-energises GPs and turns the job back into a career.
The programme is supported by the Greater Manchester Federations, with the Bolton GP Federation team leading the co-ordination of the programme.
Phoenix GP provides fully-funded career development and leadership programmes designed specifically for mid-career GPs. The programme is designed for GPs who have been fully qualified for at least 5 years and who have the potential to remain in practise for at least another 10 years.
Phoenix GP is fully funded for all participants so you don’t have to pay anything to attend the programme. The programme is not able to offer any reimbursement for time, travel or accommodation expenses.

Designed for mid-career GPs
Developed along similar lines to the Next Generation GP programme, and initially inspired by it, Phoenix GP is an independent programme designed specifically to meet the needs of mid-career GPs and the challenges they face.
Across 6 evening sessions over 6 months, you will have the chance to listen to and question GP leaders and inspirational GPs who have broadened their work experience beyond the limits of the daily grind.
Each evening you will then have a dedicated training workshop to develop a range of transferable skills that can help to re-invigorate your career and form the basis for the next steps in your career development.
Programme overview
- Six evening events over six months
- 2 hour sessions via Microsoft Teams
- 40 minute keynote speech and Q&A session with an inspirational GP or GP leader.
- Skills workshops including topics such as fundamentals of quality improvement, change management, facilitating online meetings, engagement & influencing people.
- Strengths Finder assessment with facilitated feedback and action planning.
