Practice managers often receive relatively little formal training or ongoing development. Many practice managers report feeling overburdened and isolated in their role. Since 2017 NHS England has supported the growth of local networks of practice managers which promote sharing of good ideas, action learning and peer support.

Institute of General Practice Management (IGPM)
The Institute of General Practice Management (IGPM) was formed by four working Practice Managers: Robyn Clark, Nicola Davies, Kay Keane and Jo Wadey.
The IGPM is recognised as the professional body that represents all managers working within general practice in the United Kingdom.
